We Tried.

If you go on to Pinterest, and type in the words 'Christmas baking' you'll be presented with a never-ending inventory of 'simple' yet 'beautiful' recipes to get you into the festive spirit. Every one lures you in with a glossy photo, and the promise that it's instructions are so easy to comprehend that your 4 year old nephew could make it. Turns out, everyone on Pinterest is a bloody liar.

Let's Have A Chat About Borderline Personality Disorder.

Tonight's post is not going to be the most festive thing in the world. It's also probably not going to be massively coherent, as I'm just letting the words flow out of me - that sounds so gross, but you know what I mean. But I just feel like it's about time we had a little chat.

Okay, so change of plan already. It's the third day of December and I've already failed at Blogmas. Whoops.

Blogmas Begins!

So apparently Blogtober wasn't enough stress for me, as I've decided to take on the challenge of Blogmas. Yep, I'm intending on blogging every day until Christmas. I clearly hate myself, but oh well.

The Blogger Tag.

The wonderful Libby from Love, Libby nominated me for this lil tag, which is essentially a little get to know you Q&A for bloggers. As we all know I love a tag, so I couldn't resist. Thanks for the nomination Libby!

Meet Megan Rees!

One of my favourite things about blogging is getting to 'meet' some amazing people, especially those in the Mental Health blogging community. As I've said 100 times, part of the reason I started blogging was for an outlet to talk about my mental health, so getting to interact with strong, inspiriting and motivating bloggers is a real privilege.
Today I wanted to share a little interview/collab I did with the wonderful Megan Rees, who you might remember I listed as one of my favourite mental health bloggers. I thought it would be interesting to find out a little more about her and her experiences with blogging and mental health, so I asked her a few questions to get her perspective on the topic.

What I've Learnt From Blogtober.

So, here it is at long last. The final post of Blogtober. Yes, I actually managed to post 31 blog posts in the last month - something I had real doubts about from the start. It's been a really interesting experience, and it's definitely taught me a few things!

27 Thoughts on Being 27.

It's my birthday! I'm finally 27 years old. As I'm a massive cliche (and also because I don't have much time - there is lots more celebrating me to be done) it's only right that I share my thoughts on this momentous milestone.

Biggest Fears + Spooky Incidents.

I know it's not actually Halloween yet, but who schedules a holiday for a Monday night?! Regardless, I'm in the spooky mood of things, so I thought I'd talk about a few of the things I'm terrified of, and some of my scariest encounters (spoiler alert: I've never seen a ghost, soz).

Things I'm Great At.

A couple of days ago I posted about things I'm terrible at, and lovely Rachel suggested I should do a post on the things I'm good at. It took me a fair while but I finally came up with a few I thought I could share with you!

Lush Skincare Favourites.

As much as I'm always babbling on about Lush, I didn't actually plan for my entire skincare regime to be made up of their products. When I first started shopping at Lush, I had absolutely no interest in anything that wasn't brightly coloured or glittery, and it took a long time for me to even test out their skin products. Once I did though, I fell in love quickly. It's getting to that time of year again where the weather is getting colder, and my skin is resembling sandpaper more and more, so here are my favourite products to keep my face looking healthy.

Things I'm Terrible At.

Like any strong, independent woman (lol as if) in their 20s, I'm constantly striving to prove I've got this life thing nailed. But if you look a little closer, it's all a facade. There are so many things I just suck at.

"So When Are You Having Kids?"

Here's a cliche that turned out to be true: if you get married, be prepared for a public invasion of your reproductive system. Suddenly it becomes everyone else's business whether or not you want children, when you're going to have them, why haven't you spawned a mini-you yet? What do you mean you don't want them, what kind of selfish monster are you?!

Opposites Attract.

Every so often I am reminded that Blair (my husband) and I are very, very different people. Like the time he gave me a wooden handbag (for those wondering, it's exactly what it sounds like), or when he told me he had a 'present' waiting for me at home, and it turned out to be blackout blinds. Here are a few areas in which we are definitely opposites.

Little Life Lessons I've Learnt From Drag Race.

I love RuPaul's Drag Race, although I'm one of those poor folk who only has Netflix and therefore has only seen up to series 7. Even so, I feel like this show and it's fabulous queens have taught me a lot...

Pumpkin Party.

One day can really change the whole tone of a week, and that's exactly what today did. I got the rare privilege of getting to hang out with my BFF Fereuse, who is up from London for the weekend. We were feeling all kinds of autumnal, so we got up early and headed to a farm to go pumpkin picking.

Cutting My Ties by Deleting My Emails.

A few weeks ago a psychic medium told me I was a bit of a hoarder. To be honest she didn't need qualifications like those to know that about me - she could've taken one look in my handbag to see that. I am definitely guilty of holding on to things that I don't need anymore.

Things That Make Me Happy.

Sleep Paralysis.

When I was little, I figured out I could wake myself up from nightmares. All I had to do was squeeze my eyes shut tight, and then attempt to open them, and I'd be safely back in the waking world. Until the day I got stuck.

5 Things They Should Teach In School.

I had a real love-hate relationship with school (and yes, that picture above is my actual school). I loved hanging out with friends in the lunch hall, and I hated everything else. Okay that's a bit dramatic, but I did spend a lot of time skiving off school cause I just couldn't be arsed with it. I just didn't see how a lot of what I was being taught would be relevant to my life in any way and spoiler alert - it wasn't. It'd make a lot more sense if schools taught us some more practical things.

Traquair House.

I've been to Traquair House many times - within the last five years for sure - but I never get bored of it. Every time I go I see it with fresh eyes, and I learn something new. This is definitely one of my favourite places to visit; its full of childhood memories but is also a really unique historical attraction.

October Beauty Boxes - Birchbox vs Glossybox.

It's beauty box time again! This is now the third beauty box post I've written, and for the previous two (which you can check out here) I've been most impressed with Glossybox. I'm hoping that this time Birchbox have upped their game - let's see what I got.

Is Social Media Bad For Our Mental Health?

Today, not for the first time, I realised how much of an impact social media has on my life. I check Twitter religiously; if I follow you I'm basically always creeping on what you have to say. In fact, some of you are a more frequent presence in my life than the majority of my relations. I love the community on there, and I love that there is always someone to chat with.

When you think about the most beautiful places in Scotland, I think you could be forgiven if your mind didn't immediately settle on Fife. However, there's one place in particular that I think is truly special, and that is the former royal burgh of Culross.

My Favourite Holiday Memories.*

Now that the colder weather is setting in with a vengeance, all I can seem to think about are cocktails on Caribbean beaches, city breaks in sunny Mediterranean climates, and just any kind of holiday that will help me avoid freezing to death. In fact, the only time it's acceptable to be this cold is when you're made the choice to vacation in the Arctic Circle, not when you're stuck at home with bills dropping through the letterbox, having the age old "Put on a jumper or shell out on the heating?" debate with yourself.

Gin Festival Edinburgh 2016.*

Prior to this weekend, I've probably only tried about four brands of gin in my life. I very much enjoyed them, but I would definitely have considered myself a gin newbie. So when I was invited to attend the Gin Festival at the Edinburgh Corn Exchange, I was very excited to find out more about the stuff once known as mother's ruin!

My Mental Health Story - #WorldMentalHealthDay.

Today is World Mental Health Day, a day aimed at raising awareness of mental health issues, improving education and allowing people the opportunity to speak about their experiences. This year's theme relates to the idea of psychological First Aid - hoping to make it easier for sufferers to ask for help, and give support to those who want to help them. I feel really grateful for having somewhere like this blog to talk about my mental health, so today I'm going to share my experiences with you.
(TW: there are a few self destructive behavioural patterns in here that you may not want to read about!)

Podcasts I Can't Stop Listening To.

I am a massive fan of podcasts: I'm currently subscribed to 60 different shows and more often than not my phone is so full of new episodes that I can't use it to take photos. Podcasts are brilliant, they range from hilarious comedy, to informative and educational takes on social issues, to audio plays and documentaries. I love the freedom you get from being able to pick and choose your own set of 'channels'. Here are a few that I look forward to all week.

Mental Health Bloggers You Should Be Following.

One of the main reasons I started this little blog of mine is because it gives me somewhere to talk about my mental health. Being able to blog about how I'm feeling is honestly so refreshing in a world where so many people don't take it seriously. It's also introduced me to a whole host of people who work really hard at opening up conversations about mental health, fighting to end the stigma and working to educate people.

Why I Kept My Maiden Name.

I'll straight up admit it: even before I'd started dating Blair, I was practising my signature with his last name (he's going to think I'm the biggest creep ever when he sees that). However, when we did marry in May 2015, I'd decided to stick with my own surname - even though most people assumed I wouldn't. I hadn't realised that in this day and age I'd still be expected to explain my reasons for this, but I was, and still am.

The Pros and Cons of Being a Rig Worker's Wife.

I'm sure most of you know, but I'm currently not in work. There's health reasons for this, and I'm working on those constantly, but that's just how it is right now. My husband is therefore the sole provider for us, working offshore in the oil industry since 2011, and while I'm very grateful for that there are some things about his job that are fairly irritating...

Tighnabruiach + Inverarary Castle.

My father-in-law was in the Navy, his father was in the Merchant Navy, and my own husband is going to attempt to row the Atlantic next year. Basically, my in-laws are obsessed with boats. In April, my father-in-law bought a yacht (as you do) and honestly I don't think I've gone a single day since without one of their family talking about it. So I decided it was time I found out what all the fuss was about, and a few weeks ago we headed up to Tighabruiach to spend a couple of days on the boat.

Why It's Time I Took A Risk.

Recently I've been wondering why I have yet to show my family and friends this blog. Why have I been hiding something that takes up a considerable amount of my time, and that I work (fairly) hard on? Surely I should be keen to get those extra views from people I know care about me rather than pretending it doesn't exist at all? But the truth is, I'm scared. I'm scared that they don't think it's any good, and that I've got it all wrong.

Seventeen Makeup: First Impressions*.

As everyone already knows, Autumn is the best time of the year. Not only do you get to crunch crispy leaves, snuggle up in scarves big enough to use as tents and take lots of lovely hot baths, but the makeup is amazing. Smoky eyes and berry toned lips are a standard, and I for one love it. When Seventeen very kindly sent me over some of their cosmetics I was over the moon, so I thought I'd share my first impressions with you.

September Beauty Boxes - Birchbox vs Glossybox.

You might remember that last month I shared my first impressions of my August beauty boxes in a battle to the death, and I thought I should probably do it again now that it's September! As I said before, I'm usually most impressed with Birchbox, but last month my favourite was Glossybox. Who will it be this month?

Friendship Breakups.

Something I thought I'd have grown out of by this point in my life is the break up of friendships. I had always been promised that "the friends you make in high school will be your friends for life" only to later be told that no, actually it's your uni friends who are going to be there forever. Either way, I wasn't prepared to be the wrong side of 25 and still worrying about whether X, Y or Z was still my bestie.

Jeffree Star Cosmetics - Velour Liquid Lipstick in Watermelon Soda + Prom Night.

Liquid lipsticks are hardly a revolutionary idea. I remember trying my first one absolute eons ago, a little Rimmel number if I remember correctly. It was absolutely not my colour, and I'm pretty sure it was so drying that my lips nearly cracked off entirely, but the point still stands: liquid lipsticks are old news. Even liquid lipsticks that dry matte are commonplace, so why is it that people like Jeffree Star and Kylie Jenner can stick their name on a package and sell it for four times the price? I'm a curious lil fiend, so I decided the only way to find out was to try them.

Would You Be Friends With You?

It's not really a secret that I don't have many friends. Honestly, I never really have, but at this stage of my life (my mid-to-late 20s) I'm really lacking on the friendship front. The friends I do have are incredibly important to me - mainly because I'm pretty sure they must be saints.

5 Tips for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

August transforms my beautiful hometown of Edinburgh from 'business as usual' to a bustling hub of all things cultural. Almost every art is represented - such as comedy, dance, music, theatre and caberet to name a few - in the glittering showcase, which last year hosted over 50,000 performances of over 3,000 shows in over 300 venues. 2.2 million tickets were issued in 2015, with the performers travelling from 49 countries to get involved. In short, it is the world's largest arts festival, and it's fantastic.

August Beauty Boxes - Birchbox vs Glossybox.

I've been subscribed to two beauty boxes, Glossybox and Birchbox, for probably around three years. In case you've been living under a rock, subscription boxes like these two involve paying a small monthly fee and receiving a box of 5 different sample products for you to try. I love getting little treats in the post, and new products to play with - I've definitely found some favourites from these boxes! But which would I recommend? I thought it was only fair to compare the August boxes from both and see which comes out on top.

In terms of Instagram-able shops, you can't go wrong with Lush Cosmetics. 25 Facts About Me.

Oh my, it's been a while hasn't it?! I moved house a couple of weeks ago so I was wifi-less for a little while, and for some reason the town I've moved to is like a black hole for signal which is annoying! Add to that a death in my husband's family and having a few of my family (including a 3 year old and an 8 month old) come to stay for a while and maybe you can see why I've not been quite as active as I'd like! About a thousand years ago now, the absolutely amazing Rebecca over at The Style Shake tagged me in a '25 facts about me' post, so I thought this would be a great way to dive back in. Let's go shall we?
