Lush Christmas 2017 + Kitchen Exclusives Haul.

lush christmas 2017

I'm a Lush-lover at the best of times, but recently I've gone a little bit OTT. I'd like to say I feel guilty, but I don't really - I don't really buy clothes or makeup on a regular basis, it's winter so I'm taking a lot of baths, and my husband's disappeared for three months and left me with the credit card. Serves him right really...

What I Read In November.

what i read in november books reading

My lordy, it's chilly innit?! I can't believe how close to Christmas it is now, and how few days are left in 2017. It's been a weird old year - definitely not my favourite - and I am so ready for 2018. However one of my biggest achievements of the year (lol) is that I managed to smash my reading goal of 52 books this year! Nothing better than cold weather for curling up with a book I suppose - although I didn't manage as many as in October...

Beauty Haul from Chemist-4-U.*

chemist4u haul

I spend a large proportion of my day online browsing beauty products. So when I was given the opportunity to turn browsing into shopping, I couldn't resist. I was given £30 to spend on Chemist-4-U, which was extremely exciting for me as I'd seen one of my favourite bloggers, Jenny, get a load of goodies when she worked with them on her own postChemist-4-u is an online pharmacy that sells beauty, skincare, toiletries, fragrances, dental and sexual wellbeing products, while also offering an online prescription service, making it possible to have your medications delivered straight to your door. Pretty much everything you could possibly need in one place - ideal!

Bourjois Holiday VoxBox from Influenster.*

influenster voxbox bourjois holiday voxbox

I was recently extremely lucky to be sent a VoxBox from Influenster. Influenster is a platform where members can review products, share photos and find out what makeup and beauty items are hits and misses. Influenster often sends out VoxBoxes - a box of products that are gifted to members for review purposes. I've been an Influenster member for a while now but this was my first box. When I heard it was Bourjois, I was delighted. And when I finally got a peek at what was inside, it was definitely worth the wait!

Edinburgh Christmas Foodies Festival.*

edinburgh christmas foodies festival

Last week I got to indulge in two of my favourite things - eating and blogging - when I was invited along to the Edinburgh Christmas Foodies Festival. The Foodies Festival is in its tenth year and is the UK's biggest celebration of food, drink and wellbeing. The festival travels to ten different locations throughout the year, and over a weekend showcases a host of local and national brands, demonstrations by well-known chefs and bakers, and masterclasses in how to find the perfect tipple to complement your culinary creations.

Glossybox November 2017.

glossybox uk november 2017

I know it's November but is there any need in how cold it's getting? I'm freezing while typing this. Winter really is coming, and frankly, I'm ready for it. This month's Birchbox was fairly average, will Glossybox be any better?

Birchbox November 2017.

birchbox x vogue november 2017 uk

As soon as Halloween was over the temperature here dropped. I am constantly cold now and I've bought many fluffy fabrics to combat it (including the grey tartan throw in these pictures). I don't actually mind the sun setting at like 4pm or the fact that the countdown to Christmas has already begun, but I do feel a bit sorry for November. It's quite a 'meh' month (no offence November babies) - after the autumnal excitement of October, this month tends to get overlooked in favour of December. But will the same be said for the products in my beauty boxes?

Five Relationship Lessons I'd Give My Teenage Self.

As much as I do tend to spend a lot of time worrying or fretting over things I can't change, I really have learnt a lot about relationships and people in the last 15 years (FIFTEEN YEARS since I became a teenager, grim). When I look back at it there are a few lessons I wish I could give to my younger self about dealing with others...

Glen Etive.

glen etive

I don't live in the Highlands and it's pretty much the most unfair thing that's ever happened to me. So instead I have to make do with forcing my husband to drive me up to beautiful places whenever I can. The issue with making a two- or three-hour drive to somewhere pretty is that when the weather inevitably changes (this is Scotland after all) you have to battle through it.

What I Read In October + Blogger's Book Nook!

what i read in october

Another month, another book round-up. I am getting nice and close to finishing my goal of 52 books this year which is great! This month had quite a variety of stories, including one I basically just couldn't get my head around. Alongside that, this month I'm taking part in my first Blogger's Book Nook reading prompt...

28 Things I Want To Do This Year.

Time is going past alarmingly quickly. Another birthday has been and gone, and I am now the grand old age of 28. There's something in my brain that makes that sound about 400 years older than 27, so that's fun.

Hometown Murders.

Happy Halloween lovelies! The spookiest time of the year is upon us. I personally love Halloween, but I'm fairly boring - give me a scary movie and some "leftover-not-at-all-just-bought-for-us-to-eat" sweeties meant for trick-or-treaters and I'm happy, so I don't have any fancy costumes or makeup looks to share. I don't even have any movie recommendations - my favourite is The Exorcist, hardly a hidden gem - so I'm choosing to share something a little different with you this All Hallow's Eve.

Lush Livingston Blogger's Event (+ Halloween Haul!).

lush halloween christmas livingston 2017

Anyone who reads this blog will know I am a huge Lush fan - I have a pile of bath bombs, bubble bars and shower gels that could stock a small store but I'm never satisfied, I always need more!  The Halloween and Christmas ranges are by far my favourite so I was so excited when I was invited to the Lush Livingston store this week to check out this year's offerings at their blogger event.

Glossybox October 2017.

Glossybox October 2017

I know that Birchbox was doing a great deed by having a charity-themed box but I have to admit I was disappointed that neither of this month's beauty boxes lent themselves to a full-blown Hallowe'en photoshoot. I tried to jazz it up with some bat fairy lights and spider confetti but I couldn't get as spooky as I wanted because, let's face it, unicorns aren't scary.

Birchbox October 2017.

I know that every time I write one of these, I start rambling on about how quickly time is going, but seriously, how is it nearly November?! However, I have been really enjoying October. Autumn is by far my favourite season and I have been embracing the Hallowe'en spirit too. I was really hoping for a spooky themed Birchbox this month, but there was a much nobler concept instead.

Mental Health + Relationships - with the Lilac Linnet!

I love a beauty blog or a fashion post as much as the next guy (I'm very envious of their skills with a camera particularly) but the blogs that really get me excited are the ones that I feel like I learn from. I get great joy from being able to click someone's link and be made to think, to find out what is important to other people and to read all about the things they love. That is why I kind of squealed a bit when my friend Abbey introduced me to Llinos and her blog The Lilac Linnet.

Mental Health in the Workplace - #WorldMentalHealthDay.

fox mug autumn mental health

This year's topic for World Mental Health Day is 'Mental Health in the Workplace'. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw this, as I think it's an incredibly important but often neglected subject. It's also something that is very personal to me, as someone who has been unable to juggle both work and my mental health for a long time. Is it time that businesses did more to help their employees with mental health concerns?

I was asked to review one of their wine tasting options, and I don't think I've ever accepted an invite so enthusiastically before in my life!

Okay, I know that it's technically now October and that this is clearly very out of date, but I just did a review of the September Glossybox, and it felt really weird not doing one for Birchbox too. So if you could just humour me this time, I'd appreciate it.

Glossybox UK September 2017

I didn't write any beauty box posts last month, because I was away on holiday. I actually missed it though. They may not be the most deep and meaningful entries on this little blog of mine, but I like getting a little surprise in the mail, getting to try new products, and giving my honest opinions on them. So they're back - and I'm really happy about it.

5 Reasons To Go Wild Camping.

wild camping scotland

Summer is over, and while I'm looking forward to cosy nights in front of fires, digging out my scarf collection, and getting ready for the festive season, it does kind of limit the kind of adventures you can go on. Luckily, in Scotland at least, September usually has a last burst of sunshine so there might be time to squeeze in a camping trip or two. Wild camping is one of my favourite things to do - and here are some reasons why you shouldn't let the weather put you off (all these photos are from April so you've got no excuse!)

Mental Health + Relationships - with Chaotic Goddess!

I started this interview series by asking my friends on Twitter if they'd like to take part. Since then, I've had some absolutely wonderful people sharing their experiences with me. Today's interviewee, Rachel, is unique as she was someone I didn't know before she responded to my call on Twitter, but I'm so glad that this project has brought her to me. Rachel runs Chaotic Goddess, one of the most insightful and thought-provoking blogs I've read in ages. It's exactly the kind of blog I enjoy the most, and if you have an interest in mental health, you'll love it!

What I Read In July.

Last month I rambled on for ages about all the books I managed to power through. This month, I kind of lost my way a bit. You know how it is - when it's summer you want to be outdoors enjoying yourself, rather than curled up with a book which is much more of a winter activity. That's part of the reason why I only managed to get through three books in the past month, but what a variety of books they were!

Glossybox July 2017.

So this is the latest I've ever done a beauty box post, mainly cause I just completely forgot. July was a weird old month and I got a bit sidetracked by 'real life' so whoops, soz. Also, my photos are atrocious so overall this is a shit-show of a post (really selling this aren't I?) but it felt weird to not post it.

Birchbox July 2017.

As much as I've been enjoying the sunshine (sometimes), it's been strange seeing as I've not seen my husband since mid-May. However, we've finally booked our honeymoon - despite being married for two years already - and we're going on holiday next month! So I was very excited to see whether July's beauty boxes had anything in the that would be coming on holiday with me!

Mental Health + Relationships - with Mami Skilts!

Isn't blogging amazing? On the one hand, you can find excellent tips and reviews for beauty, fashion and books, but on the other, you find bloggers who open up, share their story, and really connect with their readers. Sarah (aka Mami Skilts) is the driving force behind not one, but two blogs, which is very impressive in its own right! But when you read about the challenges life has thrown at her, it's even more remarkable that she finds the time. But I am so glad she does, as her posts are always really well-written, heartfelt and so genuine.

What I Read In June.

Ever since I was a young 'un, reading has been one of my favourite ways to spend an afternoon. In my opinion, there's nothing better than curling up on a sofa (or, as is usually the case with me, in a bed) and spending a few hours in a completely different reality. Reading is so good at calming me on panicky, anxiety-ridden days, at helping me to see another person's perspective, and at letting me experience thousands of different existences, all from the comfort of my own home.
I noticed that over the last few years, the amount I was reading for fun significantly dropped off. I found myself glued to screens instead, but I've been desperate to stop spending so much time on Netflix and Twitter. I decided to take up a challenge on Goodreads and set myself a goal of reading 52 books in 2017. So far I've read 34, so I'm not doing too badly - I'm 8 books ahead of schedule!

Mental Health + Relationships - with Curious Pandora!

I have been incredibly lucky with the people who have taken part in this series: every single one has had something unique to say, and I feel like each one has taught me something valuable that I hadn't thought of before. This is particularly true of Pandora, who I feel like I am constantly learning things from! Pandora's blog is one of my favourites because it is so individual and full of her personality. It's so refreshing to find a blog that's a bit different, and that actually makes you think. Pandora's definitely does that.

Glossybox June 2017.

Something I've discovered this month is that people on the internet are absolute crooks. Okay, so I already knew that - I mean I have been online for decades - but while Googling the full-size weights of the products in this box, I noticed people on eBay were selling the items individually for a tenner each (at least!). I appear to be missing out on a real money-making scheme...

Mental Health + Relationships - with Abbie Huggan!

In this day and age, in our world full of bloggers who have very carefully curated themes, some of my favourite blogs to read are those who completely buck that trend and talk about anything and everything. I love getting to know a blogger through their posts, seeing their true personalities and finding out what makes them tick. Abbie Huggan, and her blog Over Peach Chic, is a great example of this. Abbie writes about such a wide variety of topics - from university to Disney, to favourites, and chatty posts about her life - there's something for everyone. Abbie is also an absolute sweetheart, so I was really pleased when she agreed to take part in this!

Mental Health + Relationships - with Charlene McElhinney!

In blogging, there are some faces that stand out and really make their mark. People that others naturally gravitate to, who really make an impact and who everyone knows. For instance, I'm sure you all know who Charlene is. She is one of those amazing people who not only blog so beautifully that everyone pays attention, but she has created her own little community that is just growing in strength and members. She's one of the friendliest faces online and has time for everyone. In fact, she's one of the first friends I made on Twitter, and I have always been so thankful for the kindness she's always shown me.

I Don't Need You To Fix Me.

A couple of weeks ago, I had one of my annual "Awkward Mental Health Discussions" with a close relative. Bless them, every so often they make an effort to try to understand me, to ask relevant questions and find out a bit more about my current mental state. But there's always the moment when the questions turn into a blundering, artless attempt to offer a 'cure'. And while I do appreciate it comes from a place of love, it doesn't half frustrate me.

Glossybox May 2017.

I'm really pushing it now, aren't I? Uploading about a beauty box on the last day of the month... I am definitely not fulfilling my aim to stop leaving everything till the last minute. On the other hand, I've used these products a fair amount over the last 3+ weeks, so I feel like I can make some pretty informed reviews.

Mental Health + Relationships - with Life Through TSG!

I have always believed that it is only in your worst moments that you find out other people's true personalities. It's only when you're at rock bottom that you can look around, see who is still by your side, and count them as a good person and a great friend. It was actually in this very situation that my friendship with Hayley, the blogger behind LifeThroughTSG really began. She reached out to me when I felt the worst I've felt about myself in years, and for that, I am unbelievably grateful.

Mental Health + Relationships - with This Stuff Is Golden!

Every so often, I discover a blog that I fall in love with, and I wonder to myself, "How in the hell is this person not a household name?!" I genuinely feel this way about Lauren from This Stuff Is Golden. Her blog is one of the most beautifully written that I've ever seen, and I regularly find myself nodding along with her writing. If you're looking for a witty, honest and deeply personal blog that has a tagline we could all relate to - "Learning how to be the best kind of human" - then look no further. I kind of wish I could keep her blog to myself as my own hidden gem, but she deserves to be recognised for her unreal writing.

I'd been having a really horrible time and this was the most wonderful, thoughtful surprise. It came from my amazing friend Katrina - and it reflected exactly what she's like: kind, giving, warm-hearted and always thinking of others.
