2017: We've Been Waiting For You.

2016 was a rough year for a lot of us, and I for one am so pleased it's finally over. Although I did go to some lovely places, and do some fun things, there were just so many more cons than pros, and I don't think I made it to the end of July before I was dreaming of a fresh start. But while the premature deaths of many of our favourite icons had me uttering expletives on what felt like a daily basis, it also reminded me that life is very, very short, and you need to make every day count.

At least it would be something if I could say that I break my resolutions every year, but the truth is I'm usually too apathetic to even make any. I just accept my fate to be an unhealthy, lazy, uncultured idiot who sleeps till 2pm and does nothing with her life. 2016 taught me that I have to bite the bullet and actually put some effort in if I want to achieve anything with my life. So, despite the widespread ridicule of resolutions, I decided to focus down on a few goals I have for the coming year. Hopefully I'll be back in a year from now telling you I smashed each target, but we'll have to wait and see...

Lose Weight

I feel a bit like a body positivity traitor even using those words, and I know there will be a few people who will be rolling their eyes at this so hard they might pop out of their head, but hey ho. For me, this isn't really about hating my body, it's just about treating it as best I can. At the moment, I just fill it with Irn Bru and shite food, and barely move it further than from bed to the couch. My current weight and size is not healthy, and it's time I changed that.

Learn To Drive

I am a lazy shit, and despite being 27 years old I still haven't bothered to learn to drive. I tried a decade ago (seriously where is the time going?) but my driving instructor made me cry and as I am wont to do, I gave up immediately. My husband recently bought a car, and we've moved out of Edinburgh to somewhere a bit quieter, so it's about time I finally get my licence. Blair is very keen on this plan, as he thinks it'll encourage me to pick him up from the pub... yeah, okay then. But being able to get about would be very convenient when he's offshore.

Less Whinging, More Working

"Why is that person getting all the success, while I, sitting in my pjs watching Harry Potter for the 53796th time, am getting nowhere?!" Apart from Blogtober, I don't work hard enough on this blog, and it definitely shows. This year I'm going to get organised, put my all into it, and treat this little corner of the internet as a priority. I started losing my love for blogging towards the end of last year, but I had a little sit down and realised this really is what I love doing. I've set myself some high but not unachievable goals for blogging this year, and I'm really excited to see where I get.

Learn More

I want to learn a language, how to cook, how to play piano... essentially, I want to learn anything and everything I possibly can. I went to uni not really focused on career goals, but because I just love learning. I am still toying with the idea of a Masters degree, but in the meantime this will be the year that I take every opportunity to learn something new.

Experience More

I let anxiety rule a lot of my life. I say no to things I really want to say yes to. I get trapped inside this house for weeks at a time. I want to conquer that. I want to get outside, climb up hills, swim in freezing cold lochs, watch the sunset from the door of my tent and get up early to see it rise again. I want to really live this year; I want to collect moments, memories and experiences. This blog has definitely helped with that, but there's so much more to get out there and do.

I'm absolutely determined to make this year the best of my life. I am going to work my arse off and I'm sure it's going to be worth every second. Bring it on, 2017.
