Reading Habits Tag.

Two things you might not know about me: 1) I'm obsessed with reading to the point of having 15 books currently on my bedside table, and 2) I LOVE tag posts. So when the really bloody lovely Rachel tagged me for this I was over the moon. (Sidenote: definitely go check out Rachel's blog, she's so friendly and funny, and her posts are some of my absolute faves).

Anyway, here we go...

  1. Do you have a certain place at home for reading?
I like to read on the sofa, curled up with a blanket and either one or both of my cats. But if someone wants the living room, I'll head up to my bed. It's cosy but I often fall asleep.
  2. Bookmark or random piece of paper?
I usually lose bookmarks very quickly, so I almost always have bus or train tickets, or playing cards, poking out the top of my books. I'm currently using Cards Against Humanity cards.

  3. Can you just stop reading or do you have to stop after a chapter/a certain amount of pages?
I somehow have an innate ability to choose to start reading precisely 4.7 minutes before my phone rings or my husband wants my attention, so I've gotten pretty used to abruptly stopping halfway through a page. I prefer to stop after chapters though, who stops after a certain number of pages?!
  4. Do you eat or drink while reading?
I usually have a glass of water next to me - I don't drink tea or coffee so I can't be a proper blogger. I don't tend to eat, unless it's something like Maltesers...
  5. Multitasking: Music or TV while reading?
This is my absolute pet peeve. I cannot stand noise while I'm trying to read. Today I could distantly hear some bagpipes (I know, Scotland is a cliche) and it really put me off. So no, no music or tv please!
  6. One book at a time or several at once?
I read a lot of books at once (I really am reading 15 just now) because I tend to choose really long books and like a break. It works for me!

My bedside table tower, bit precarious.
  7. Reading at home or everywhere?
Everywhere. I read most of my books in the house but there's always one in my bag for any bus or train journeys.
  8. Reading out loud or silently in your head?
I weirdly do this thing where I kind of whisper it to myself. I don't know why, I know I'm a freak!
  9. Do you read ahead or even skip pages?
I've skipped pages because they were super repetitive, and I've definitely been guilty of reading ahead a few times! But if I am really enjoying a book I wouldn't do that.
  10. Breaking the spine or keeping it like new?
Nooo, never break the spine! I know someone who broke large books IN HALF. That hurts my soul. I try and keep it perfect for as long as possible.

  11. Do you write in your books?
No, I also don't like this. I read a lot of library books and find a lot of notes in the margins. I just find it kind of disrespectful, it can really affect someone else's interpretation of the book.
  12. Who do you tag?
I'm going to tag lovely Imogen. Hopefully you haven't done this before!

Let me know if you have any weird reading habits, or any recommendations of books I might like! And if you want to, you can add me on Goodreads here.

  1. Yaay. Love this. As if you're reading 15 books. That's mad!

    1. I know, it's really got out of control haha! xx

  2. Cards are great bookmarks! My BF has used up an entire pack of playing cards for bookmarks haha! I like reading on the go as well, there's nothing that makes a boring train journey go faster than a good book! I NEVER break the spine either, it makes me sad when it happens accidentally! I love this tag, I might steal it and do it myself....

    1. They're just such a handy shape and size for bookmarks I find! I used to use playing cards but I'd always lose one and my husband gets so annoyed... I hope you do this tag, I love finding out about peoples' reading habits! xx

  3. Loved this post and loved reading about someone else's reading habits!

    Great answers chick!
