Birchbox April 2017.

Every single month, without fail, the Hermes delivery driver who is supposed to attempt to give me my Birchbox decides that knocking is too much effort. Therefore, every single month, without fail, I have to basically climb inside my recycling bin to collect it, as the lazy bugger just chucks it in there. Over the past few months, there have been a couple of boxes that probably should've stayed there. Is this month any different...?

Birchbox UK April 2017

This month's box is a collaboration with the fashion brand Boden, with a theme of being bold and beautiful. I don't really know much about Boden, but this very pretty Spring-style box is apparently based on their prints. I really like the design this month, it's bright and eye-catching, and we're back to the drawer-style box, yay!

Manna Kadar Cosmetics High Definition Powder

Manna Kadar Cosmetics High Definition Powder, RRP £27, full-size sample.

This month we got to choose between a bronzer/highlighter duo, or this powder. I went for this as I've been on the lookout for a good setting powder for a while (and frankly, I have enough bronzer samples to open my own, very niche, shop). I'd never heard of Manna Kadar so I was a little apprehensive, but this powder is really lovely. It's buttery-soft to the touch, blends like a dream and doesn't look at all cakey on my face. It's translucent and mattifying, but it also seems to bring a bit of brightness to my under-eyes. I'm a big fan - but no way would I pay £27 for such a small product.

Nip + Fab Colour Correcting Concealer

Nip + Fab Colour Correcting Concealer, RRP £8.95, full-size sample.

There are four of these colour correcting concealers: an orange shade for dark circles, green to neutralise redness and blemishes, purple to eliminate yellow undertones, and this yellow shade that apparently acts as a 'subtle highlighter'. I've tried this three times since I got it, and I cannot make it work for me at all. As I have a lot of redness but am also super pale, this colour sticks out on me like a sore thumb - I look vaguely like a minion. It also settles into any fine lines, and I found it near impossible to blend out as it's quite thick. I wish I'd got the orange or green shades as I think they'd have been more useful.

Polaar IcePure Gentle Scrub with Arctic Cotton

Polaar IcePure Gentle Scrub with Arctic Cotton, RRP £23.50, sample size worth £7.83 (25ml).

I had a Polaar product in a previous box, and while I enjoyed it, I don't think it was out of this world. I kind of feel the same about this. Apparently, the Arctic cotton in this is a big deal in the moisturising world, but the only stand out thing, in my opinion, is the fresh, pleasant smell. This scrub did work pretty well on my dry forehead and nose, and I did enjoy the exfoliation, but I just don't understand why it's so expensive - there's nothing revolutionary about this product. I'm happy with the sample and I will use the whole thing, but I just don't think it's impressive enough to warrant re-purchase.

Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray

Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray, RRP from £20 for a 75ml travel size, sample size worth £10 (37ml).

YouTube marketing works: every time I think of Oribe, I think of Zoella. Years ago, she used to rave about them, so I've always been intrigued. I've only ever tried one product of theirs before, and guess what? It was this one. I wasn't mad about getting a sample of something I've used, though, as this product really is very good. I have fairly long, thick, curly hair which feels very heavy, so apart from frizz, I don't get much volume at the roots. This spray is like a dry shampoo in that it'll give you a bit of movement and texture, and just generally make your hair feel volumised without being sticky or stiff. It also smells really lovely. Getting this in my Birchbox feels like a lovely treat, cause this is a product I really like but never feel able to justify spending so much money on.

Baïja Paris Crème Moana in Fleur de Tiarè

Baïja Paris Crème Moana in Fleur de Tiarè, RRP £15.90, sample size worth £6.36 (30ml).

I won't lie, when I saw this in my box the only thing I could think about was how good the movie Moana is. This actually smells a little bit like how I think the film would smell: a tropical, floral scent with a hint of coconut, kind of like a cocktail you might enjoy on the beach. This is full of moisturising ingredients like shea and cupuaçu butters, jojoba wax and coconut oil, and I was surprised how quickly it sinks into the skin. I thought it would be sticky, but within 30 seconds all that's left is the scent. I wouldn't say I can really tell a difference in how my skin felt compared to my usual body cream, but I like the consistency and perfume a lot.

Birchbox UK April 2017

So this month's Birchbox is a lot better than the last few months, that's for sure. Compared to last month there are two full-size products! While I don't feel like I've found a holy grail, can't-live-without-it product, there are four items in here that I'll enjoy getting to use until my next box arrives. That's much more than previous months have given me!

What did you make of Birchbox this month? Did you get anything different?

  1. It's such a pretty box!! I love the tube of the body lotion, too. Now imagining you as a minion.. Haha! ♥

    1. The box is lovely, I've stashed it away alongside millions of others. I'll be honest, I don't suit the minion look! xx

  2. such a lovely box hope to see you do a review on each

    1. Thanks! Yeah the box is beautiful, one of my favourites :) x

  3. This looks like such a fun box. I get a few subscription boxes, but none of them are beauty products.
P.S Love the photo backdrop gold stars :)

    1. Oooh what kind of subscriptions do you get? And thanks - the stars are so annoying though haha! They're all over my house! xx

  4. Your relationship with Hermes just gets better and better 😂 This box sounds like it's worth climbing inside your bin for though! I love Boden, they have amazing Joules-like clothes! The Moana cream sounds absolutely delish, nothing better than tropical scents for the spring / summer weather!
