Glossybox April 2017.

I'll tell you something for free - if I'd known how much time I'd spend worrying about the placement of sequin stars, I'd never have opened the stupid box. As it is, they're now all over my house and I can't be bothered cleaning up. Also, I've realised how sloped my floors are - no matter how much I try I can't make some of these pictures look straight because my house isn't straight. Sorry lads, you'll just have to deal with it.

Glossybox April 2017 UK

This month's Glossybox is apparently based around products that are convenient for busy people that are trying to boss the shit out of Spring (not Glossybox's actual words). Let's be real, that description? Not even remotely relevant to me, but I am a lazy cow so I was intrigued by the prospect of easy to use, revolutionary products. Is that what I got? Hmmm...

Elgon Deliwash Cleansing Conditioner

Elgon Deliwash Cleansing Conditioner, RRP £14.50, sample size worth £4.83 (100ml).

You know those magical people (like my husband) who can wash their hair and not use a conditioner? How is that possible? If I don't use a conditioner my hair feels like straw. Co-washing (essentially using a conditioner only, instead of also using shampoo) was something I first tried while working at Lush, and their Avocado Co-Wash is still a big favourite of mine, so I was excited to try this product. But as you may know, I don't always have the best luck with hair products in beauty boxes.
Firstly, this smells amazing! It's almost like a perfume, but I actually prefer fragrance in my hair as you get wafts of it throughout the day. Secondly, I really like this product. It feels weird using just a conditioner at first, but this left my hair feeling bouncy and volumised. It also really emphasised the curls in my hair, giving them much more definition which I loved. There was no greasiness and it didn't weigh my hair down. Honestly, this might be my favourite hair product I've received so far.

ModelCo Contour Stick
ModelCo Contour Stick swatch

ModelCo Contour Stick, RRP £17, sample size worth £8 (2.1g 'mini' size).

This is confusing - they're marketing it as having a £17 price tag but this size of the product is sold separately as a mini for £8. Weird.
Anyway, another month, another contour. I feel like I have hundreds now, but to be fair none in a cream stick form like this one. I'm not entirely sure how this is any more convenient than a powder or cream in a compact, but I gave it a shot. I kind of wish I didn't.
I found this quite hard to photograph, but hopefully, the swatch gives a bit of an idea as to how orangey this colour is. I'm really pale with red undertones; this colour looks utterly ridiculous on me. I tried to blend it out and it just went muddy and patchy which was not ideal. Even if the colour suited me better, I don't think I'd use this. It's a nice idea, but it doesn't perform very well.

SportFX Double Time Brush Buffer + Powder Duo

SportFX Double Time Brush Buffer + Powder Duo, RRP £10.99, full-size product.

Must resist joke about double-ended things...
I was pleasantly surprised to see a brush in this month's box. I personally love getting beauty tools like this as I usually find them to be really good quality - and they save me having to buy my own. Most often it seems to be eye brushes, which I love receiving, but it was really nice to get something a little different.
This has a flat buffer brush on one end and a tapered powdered brush on the other. It has synthetic bristles that can be used for creams, liquid and powder, and it's SO soft! Apparently, this was designed for use at the gym, to save you space in your make up bag. I do think that the actual design isn't the most attractive I've ever seen - I probably wouldn't have looked twice at this on a shelf. However, it works beautifully and I now use it whenever I do my makeup.

Merci Handy Love and Hand Cleansing Gel in Chérie Cherry

Merci Handy Love and Hand Cleansing Gel in Chérie Cherry, RRP £2.90, full-size product.

Hmm. It's not Glossybox's fault that I received a similar product in a Birchbox a few months ago (although it does piss me off a bit how often they both use the same brands), but honestly, this is not an exciting product to get. It's especially uninteresting when you're used to Glossybox's containing up to four full-size samples, while this is one of two in this box. It smells like alcohol when you first use it, but after a couple of seconds, there's a faint but not unpleasant cherry scent. It gets the job done, but it's hardly a luxury beauty sample.

Rodial Glamolash Mascara XXL

Rodial Glamolash Mascara XXL, RRP £24, sample size worth £11.07 (6ml).

I had quite high hopes for this, as Rodial are quite a high-end brand, and I've liked products from them before. However, again, I think this is massively overpriced. Especially seeing as I've used much better products from much cheaper brands. This does give my eyelashes a bit of length, but there's next to no volume, and realistically isn't that what most of us want? Unless you're using it for day-time, subtle, "I'm not wearing any makeup" type makeup, this doesn't have much of a 'wow' factor. It does, however, hold a curl for a really good amount of time (I napped while wearing this and even when I woke up they hadn't dropped). I think it's nice and I'll use it, but it's not the type of mascara I prefer, and it's way too expensive for what it is.

Glossybox April 2017 UK

Total Box Worth: £37.79
Total Box Price: £13.25 (£10 + £3.25 p&p)
Overall Rating: ★★★☆☆

I suppose it had to happen at some point. After months of being brilliant, this Glossybox is perhaps the weakest I've had in ages. I only really like the brush and the co-wash (I know, I'm still in shock I like a hair product too), while the rest just aren't for me. It can be frustrating to receive boxes that don't really feel quite as worth the money, but overall I think Glossybox has brought loads of excellent products into my consciousness, so I'm not exactly unsubscribing yet!

What do you think of this month's products?

  1. You got so many lovely bits in this box! I really need to sign up for this. X
