Birchbox May 2017.

I'm just going to start this by apologising in advance for the weird pink background. Oh, and the fact I'm yet again posting this right at the end of the month when I've had these products for about three weeks. I'm a terrible blogger for many reasons, but I'm sure you already knew that.

may 2017 birchbox

Anyway, this month's Birchbox is pretty much the most bloggery thing of all time. The box is a marble effect, with rose-gold threads throughout. I admit it, when I saw it I was a walking heart eyes emoji. Birchbox has a history of cute boxes, but this is one I'll definitely find it hard to part with.

The theme this month was "It's all in the details"; apparently these are products that will make a big difference to our routines. That's a bold claim!

Marsk Mineral Eyeshadow in Vanilla Frosting
Marsk Mineral Eyeshadow in Vanilla Frosting swatch

Marsk Mineral Eyeshadow in Vanilla Frosting, RRP £14.49, full-size sample (1.3g).

I love a shiny eyeshadow as much as the next gal. I'm all about pretty shimmery colours, and I think this pearlescent shade would be perfect for the inner corner. When this is blended out it gives a gorgeous metallic sweep of colour, but you can also build it up for a much more intense colour. It's made from natural ingredients, which is always good too. HOWEVER, in what freaking world is this tiny little pot worth nearly £15?!. I don't mean to be a dick but Barry M do the same thing, but about three times the size for like a third of the price. I think I'll stick to that, to be honest.

Doucce Punk Volumizer Mascara

Doucce Punk Volumizer Mascara, RRP £18, sample size worth approx £9 (approx 7ml).

Hi, I love this, this is one of the best things I've ever got in a beauty box. I have so far only received utter shite in terms of mascara from Birchbox and Glossybox (besides the time I got a Better Than Sex sample, which is my favourite mascara ever). I love a mascara that gives great volume, and this chunky brush does exactly that. I really like this and I'd definitely shell out the £18 for a full-size.

Skin79 Clean-on 2 Step Nose Pack

Skin79 Clean-on 2 Step Nose Pack, RRP £2.90, full-size sample.

If this isn't the cutest packaging you've ever seen, please tell me what is! Although I'm not sure hedgehogs are renowned for their noses, whatever! This is a two-step process, with one charcoal and witch hazel peel-off nose strip to clear your pores, and then a soothing green tea and cucumber hydrogel strip. I am a big fan of Korean skincare and this is another winner. Peel-off strips are my guilty pleasure anyway, but this combo made my skin feel so clean and soft. I think the price is pretty good too, so I'd definitely be keen to see what else Skin79 have to offer.

Kueshi Hair Mask Shine & Volume

Kueshi Hair Mask Shine & Volume, RRP £10.50, sample size worth £2.10 (50ml).

Last time I got a Kueshi product in a box, it was a foot cream. This was inevitably going to be a step up (see what I did there?) from that. This mask is designed for damaged hair, with rice protein to strengthen, jojoba oil to hydrate and shea butter to moisturise. I recently dyed my hair (badly) and it was feeling a bit dry, so I gave this a go, and I was pleasantly surprised. It's restored some shine to my hair, and it feels much more silky and conditioned. Plus I think this smells really nice - it's kind of like a vanilla milkshake scent that lingers in your hair all day.

Whish Firming Body Cream

Whish Firming Body Cream, RRP £27, sample size worth £3.96 (22ml).

The problem with a long-term subscription to a beauty box is that you end up with quite a lot of the same 'exclusive' brand. So Birchbox, if you're reading this, thanks for all the Whish products but I seem to be missing the Lemongrass Body Butter which is driving me mad, as lemongrass is my favourite scent. Anyhoo!
This smells a bit odd, kind of like Sudocreme, with a hint of green tea - although the fragrance is subtle and does disappear quite quickly so it's not too overwhelming. It sinks into the skin very quickly which is great and has shea butter and cocoa seed butter to help soften and protect the skin. To be fair, it did leave me feeling very soft and hydrated. However, this claims to reduce blemishes and even stretch marks, which I saw absolutely no evidence of. Nice as a body cream, but I don't think it does much more than that.

Total Box Worth: £32.45
Total Box Price: £12.95 (£10 + £2.95 p&p)
Overall Rating: ★★★★☆

Birchbox May 2017

Not the priciest samples in the world, but there's some good stuff in here. The mascara is gorgeous, the hair mask and the nose strips are great and the eyeshadow is lovely if (very!) overpriced. I'm not mad at this collection, and I've incorporated a couple of these items into my daily routine which says a lot.

What do you think about this month's Birchbox?

  2. Mascara Your Doucce Punk Volumizer mascara review is really awesome. Thanks to share this beautiful Mascara review. It's really helpful for eye makeups.I believe makeup is an important part of women's life. I love to use this Doucce Punk Volumizer mascara for my eye and my favorite Liquid Matte Lipsticks for my lip. I can't imagine a single day without my makeups.
