Glossybox June 2017.

Something I've discovered this month is that people on the internet are absolute crooks. Okay, so I already knew that - I mean I have been online for decades - but while Googling the full-size weights of the products in this box, I noticed people on eBay were selling the items individually for a tenner each (at least!). I appear to be missing out on a real money-making scheme...

Last month's Glossybox was disappointing, so I was a bit concerned about what June had up its sleeve. What it had, though, was a box with six products rather than the usual five - immediate bonus points!
Beautypro Black Diamond Peel Off Mask with Activated Charcoal

Beautypro Black Diamond Peel Off Mask with Activated Charcoal, RRP £4.95 for 3 x 7g masks, sample size worth £1.65 (1 x 7g mask).

I've made no secret of how much I love a good face mask, and as we all know, black peel-off masks have been everywhere lately. I'm honestly a bit scared of these, as they have always looked painful and I'm a giant baby, but it actually wasn't too bad at all. The 'activated' charcoal (activated by what? And how is it active!?) is supposed to loosen blackheads and give you a deep cleanse. Honestly, I think these kind of masks are just a bit of a gimmick for people who kind of enjoy the grossness of seeing what comes out of your skin. Overall I didn't really notice any difference to my face at all, but it was fun to use.

111Skin Space Defence Bright Eye Lift Gel

111Skin Space Defence Bright Eye Lift Gel, RRP £110 for 15ml, sample size worth £36.67 (5ml).

Being genuinely serious now, I did an actual double-take at the price of this product. I'm one hell of a cheap bitch, so it might just be me, but the idea of paying that much for a cream is madness to me. However, that didn't mean I wasn't very thankful for such a generous sample of it. Or I would have been if literally anything had come out of the bottle. My sample was so empty I had to unscrew the pump to try the minuscule amount inside. To be fair, what I tried was lovely and cooling, and smelt absolutely beautiful, but I just couldn't give this enough of a shot to see any real effect (although what I did try was pretty sticky, gross). So disappointing!

Sleek Makeup Power Plump Lip Crayon in Notorious Nude

Sleek Makeup Power Plump Lip Crayon in Notorious Nude, RRP £5.50 for 3.6g, full-size sample.

I'm a big fan of Sleek Makeup, so I was excited to see this included. This colour is a pretty pinky-brown shade with a hint of shimmer to it and will be perfect for simple summery makeup. It also has ingredients that give your lips a tingling feeling, to stimulate blood flow and make your lips look bigger. Personally, I didn't actually see much difference from that but I did enjoy the fresh feeling. I really like this and think I'll get a lot of use out of it.

Himalaya Herbals Purifying Neem Face Wash

Himalaya Herbals Purifying Neem Face Wash, RRP £3.29 for 150ml, sample size worth £1.10 (50ml).

It's really funny to me that some skincare is so expensive and does nothing for me, while some of the cheaper products seem to work wonders. For me, this is a really lovely example of that. I've never even heard of neem before, but it apparently is great for purifying the skin and also has antibacterial properties. It seems to be very effective, as this little face wash gave me such fresh, clean-feeling skin. It also has a lovely crisp herbal scent that I enjoyed a lot.

Batiste Stylist Oomph My Locks XXL Volume Spray

Batiste Stylist Oomph My Locks XXL Volume Spray, RRP £4.29 for 200ml, full-size sample.

I swear I complain about my hair every time I get a haircare product, but it's because I can never do anything with it. It's so thick, curly and heavy that it doesn't look good in most styles, and there is never any volume to it. I didn't think much of the claims this product made because nothing ever works properly on hair like mine. However, I was really pleasantly surprised by this. I noticed an immediate difference in volume and felt like my hair actually was staying in a style other than limp and boring. I'll be honest, this did make my hair feel a little dry, but nothing unbearable, and definitely worth it for the range of possibilities it opens up. Just be sure you massage it in fully as it can look a little grey when it's not blended properly.

Manna Kadar Cosmetics Glo Illuminator

Manna Kadar Cosmetics Glo Illuminator, RRP £22.50 for 20ml, full-size sample(?)

From what I can see on the Manna Kadar website, this 20ml tube is actually full-size. This liquid illuminator looks pink but actually blends out to be really sheer, meaning that it works with any skin tone. You can use it alone as a highlighter, or mix it with your foundation for an all-over glow. It is definitely more glittery than some other illuminators, but it's very finely milled glitter so you won't look like a clown. I was a little scared of it at first, but it really perked my skin up and looks lovely when it catches the light. This would be lovely with a nice tan on a sunny day. This is the second Manna Kadar product I've received recently and I'm really intrigued by this brand now!

louise pentland wilde like me

One added little thing I got was a little sneak peek excerpt from Louise Pentland's novel Wilde Like Me. I'm looking forward to having a read of this, and seeing whether it's worth picking up the book when it comes out!

Total Box Worth: £71.71
Total Box Price: £13.25 (£10 + £3.25 p&p)
Overall Rating: ★★★★☆

It's kind of hilarious to me that the product I liked the least this month was by far the most expensive. However the rest of the box really made up for the eye cream's shortfall, and I'm using them regularly, so thanks, Glossybox! What with this and Birchbox, it's been a great month for beauty boxes!

What did you think of what was in this month's Glossybox?

  1. I can't believe that people are selling these products on eBay for a massive markup haha, I'm surprised that anyone buys them 😂 Such a shame about that pricey eye gel - for that price I wouldn't want a sticky product! I've also held off from trying the black mask products because I think they're a bit of a gimmick, I don't wanna waste money on something that doesn't actually make a difference to my skin!

    1. I think you have the right idea, it was fun to try the mask but it makes no real difference so the price isn't worth it in my opinion!
