A Pony Called Steve - Quirky, Cute Bath & Body Products!*

This might sound strange, but in our house, soap is a big deal. Some people like to splash out on fancy bags or indulge themselves with a new outfit, but for me, buying nice bath products is a little luxury that I love. In fact, owning gorgeous-scented soaps is so much of a treat for me that I nearly cried when I realised my husband was using my precious blocks of sudsy delights as a full-body wash in the shower. So I hope you'll understand why I've placed these two little gems from A Pony Called Steve under lock and key, to protect them from the monster I live with...

A Pony Called Steve is not only the best-named company I've ever heard of (you can find out more about how Steve helped Aminah get to work here) but they are a small Scottish (yay!) company full of women, who don't believe in boring packaging, dull scents or "surrendering to the beige". That is an ethos I can wholeheartedly support! All their products are handmade in the UK, are entirely cruelty-free, and most of their products are also vegan which is amazing. They also don't use potentially harmful chemicals like parabens or sodium lauryl sulphate (SLS). So basically, they are kind to your skin, kind to animals, and full of fun.

Packaging

I received one of their hand washes in the scent 'green Opal Fruits' and one of their soap bars with the 'honeyed raspberry' fragrance. Firstly, I need to talk about this packaging! It's so bright, unique, and so pretty. Each scent has its own design, making it really easy to identify matching products. The gorgeous parrot design on the green opal fruit scent is sure to add a bit of colour to your bathroom, and the pink and blue marble design for the honeyed raspberry is really pretty. The products also have a little bit of text on the packaging, giving a quirky little insight into the scent.

The packaging is so beautiful that I think these would make such great gifts. They're just that little bit more exciting thanks to their colourful designs!

Scent and Product Range

A Pony Called Steve has a wide variety of different scents for you to choose from. Alongside some stand-alone soap scents, the main fragrance selection is:
  • Mojito
  • Pear Drops
  • Pink Lemonade
  • Green Opal Fruits
  • Honeyed Raspberry
  • Parma Violets
You can get soaps, solid perfumes, body wash, hand wash, body lotions, bath fizz and even soy candles in these scents. They also do adorable travel sets with 100ml of body wash, 100ml of body lotion, 100g of soap and a full-sized solid perfume, all for just £18 - perfect for taking on holiday with you!

Green Opal Fruits Hand Wash

I've just realised that there may be some of you who don't even remember when Starburst was called Opal Fruits. I now feel about 100 years old.

Anyhoo, the label on this hand wash says "Don't even try to pretend... you know the green ones are the best really..." and it is spot on. As you may know, I'm a huge fan of fruity scents, so this fragrance range immediately appealed to me. I was not disappointed! This is gorgeous, a zesty lime with none of the sharpness that some citrus scents can have. It's zingy and fresh, with ginger and coriander to warm and herby base notes, and really does smell like green Opal Fruits! I love this scent and am definitely considering getting the candle version - I'd love for my whole room to smell like this.

In terms of a hand wash, this is a great formula. I was worried it might be a little bit sticky, but it's not at all. It also doesn't dry out my skin whatsoever, which I find to be quite common with liquid hand wash. Instead, this leaves me with soft, squeaky-clean hands that smell amazing!

This hand wash is £8 (there's no weight on the packaging, sorry!) which I think is a good price for an independently-made, 98% natural product with such a gorgeous scent and fun packaging. Again, I think this would make a great gift and the price seems pretty fair to me!

Honeyed Raspberry Soap Bar

The box says "Let's face it - we can be all fancy about it, but what this really smells of is blue ice poles. Yum!" I absolutely love products that smell like raspberry, and this has a twist of honey and rose to give it a mouthwatering, sweet-and-floral fragrance that I am loving for the summer. Blue ice poles are the best, and this scent is so reminiscent of my childhood. I'm so keen to try this in the body wash and lotion - smelling like a walking Slush Puppy would be my dream come true.

The soap itself is a natural colour, which I was a little surprised by at first. However, this is in order to ensure that they don't use any harsh chemicals to dye it, so I fully support the nude look. I was very surprised by how creamy this felt, and how much lather it gave off. Not to shade another brand but I have tried a lot of soaps from a large natural-product-based shop and I always find them quite drying. This feels very different, much more gentle and moisturising. It also gives a really good lather - I hate when a soap bar just makes your hands a bit slippy. The scent lingers for ages and I end up just sitting smelling my own hands like a weirdo.

The soap bars are £4.85 each which is a really good price and I will definitely be stocking up on more of this!

Final Thoughts

I'm so pleased that I've been introduced to A Pony Called Steve as they are definitely my kind of company. The quirky packaging and the unique scents are total winners for me, and the large variety of products mean that you're bound to find something for everyone. The scents I tried were strong without being overwhelming, and completely stunning aromas. The products themselves were both really excellent, skin- and animal-friendly, and really well priced. I can't wait to get my hands on the Pink Grapefruit and Pear Drops scents next, maybe in body wash or solid perfume forms to try those out too!

This is a small business (although they are growing rapidly!) that produces such unbelievable quality. I absolutely love their products and I'm sure you will too. If you'd like to try out some of their gorgeous items, you can get 10% off with the code BETH10! Just make sure to hide them from soap-thieves like my husband!
