Christmas Dinner at the Urban Fox, Edinburgh.*

Christmas is basically my favourite time of year. The cheery festive feeling that is hanging in the air always excites me, and apart from the threat of slipping over (I've already dislocated my kneecap but that's a story for another day), there's not much I don't like about this time of year. My number one favourite thing about Christmas though is FOOD. So when I was invited to go along to the Urban Fox in Edinburgh and try out their Christmas menu, I was delighted!

The Urban Fox is a relatively new restaurant, having first opened its doors in April this year. They are a family run business that covers every eventuality from a catch up over coffee to cocktails to kick off a night out, but it is the brasserie that is the real jewel in its crown.

The Urban Fox is on Causewayside, in the heart of the studenty districts of Southside and Newington (I'm so bad with places, sorry!). There is definitely a hint of eclectic chic about the decor that will appeal to a younger crowd, and the prices are reasonable and student-friendly too - but the quality of the food is so high that this will be a genuine crowd-pleaser for all ages.

I was invited along to the evening by my friend Charlene (who has also blogged about the night here) and we were joined by two other wonderful bloggers, Lorna of Tuggy Tucks In and Hayley from Honestly Russell. It was so lovely to meet these two, and within minutes we were chatting away like old friends. It's always a bit intimidating to meet new bloggers but they were both so friendly and fun that I had a great evening (and of course, Charlene is a bloomin' sweetheart who I love getting to hang out with!).

Our evening kicked off with delicious glasses of warming mulled wine. I'm honestly obsessed with the stuff, there's nothing better to get you in the Christmas spirit. It's such a nice treat and the Urban Fox offering was gorgeous! We also got the chance to wander around and take a look at the decor. I love when restaurants have a unique feel as I find the chains can feel a bit soulless. Independent places like Urban Fox are my favourite - the bright, zesty colours combined with the quirky pieces (just look at how cute the salt and pepper shakers are!) make this feel like a relaxed, upbeat restaurant that you'd be happy to spend all evening in.

And to be honest, given the portion sizes, you might have to. To call them generous is a slight understatement...

I kicked off my three-course dinner with the Winter Vegetable soup, and it was just gorgeous. Thick, warming and flavoursome, I was in heaven. Served with crusty bread and butter, this was the perfect wintery starter and was a great, filling option.

Our mains arrived shortly after, and we tested out three of the four options between us. I went for the goat's cheese, spinach, asparagus and walnut Wellington, and it was an absolute delight. The goat's cheese and the walnut worked well together, creating a gorgeous nutty, creamy filling that I could probably rave about for days. It was served with a dill and parsley mash, and as anyone who knows me will tell you, I am obsessed with mash potato. This was the perfect delicate accompaniment to the Wellington, and I was in food heaven. As I mentioned though, this was an incredibly generous portion size and even I didn't manage to finish!

Hayley had opted for the salmon fillet with new potatoes, and I was highly impressed at the size of the fillet she received. There's nothing worse than a stingy portion of fish, so this got full marks on appearance from me! Charlene and Lorna both had the traditional Christmas dinner, and it looked absolutely incredible. I honestly can't believe how much food was on their plates! It came with all the trimmings too, the perfect way to prepare yourself for the big day!

By this point, I think we were all stuffed, but we'd all opted for one more treat - the sticky toffee pudding. Now, being 100% realistic here, I don't think we had a clue what we were in for. Served with cinnamon ice cream and a hot toffee sauce, I'm being genuine when I say we could have easily shared one between us and been happy. They. were. HUGE. It was an absolute brick in terms of size but was so dreamy to eat - rich, moist and delicious. Not one of us finished it, but we were all fully infatuated with it.

The service throughout the night was also brilliant. The staff were very friendly, happy to accommodate any of our needs and were quick and efficient throughout. They were really great and we were all very pleased with our experience. The menu was incredible (I've popped it below so you can see all the options) and I cannot believe how much food we got for the price - £26 for a three-course Christmas meal of this calibre is an absolute steal.

Overall we had a fantastic evening tasting the festive menu at Urban Fox, and I will definitely be back to try more of their incredible food. This was a really cosy, inviting restaurant that I am really excited to introduce my friends and family to. If you're in Edinburgh and looking for somewhere to host your Christmas night out, Urban Fox is serving their festive menu right up until December 23rd - I couldn't recommend them more.

Find Urban Fox on Facebook here and Instagram here - look at that incredible food!

What would you order from Urban Fox's Christmas menu?
*I was gifted a three-course Christmas meal in exchange for a review but all opinions are 100% my own and honest, as always!
